Fun with bobbin

Bobbin furniture originated in the 17th century and has seen a resurgence over the last two years. The trend looks set to continue to grow with the ongoing popularity of vintage. Wood is turned on a lathe to create the unusual shape. It is especially attractive when painted in bright colours. (Image below from Chelsea textiles)

Local manufacturing

We have always enjoyed working with local craft specialists and have built relationships over many years. More and more clients are requesting local production and it is a pleasure to be able to support small businesses and commission bespoke furniture, cabinetry, and soft furnishings within the UK (In the image below the panelling, sofas, ottoman, lampshades, cushions and curtains were all made for us within 30 miles of our studio)

Dulux Colour of the Year 2022 Bright Skies`

Bright Skies is an airy light blue designed to feel optimistic, like a breath of fresh air in your home. The paint shade was created in response to two years of lockdowns confining us indoors. It is similar to Farrow & Ball Skylight which we enjoy using and painted onto this bathroom panelling.

Antiques

Antiques are gaining popularity again thanks to eco conscious purchasers and clients’ love for traditional lasting style. Lyon and Turnbull has excellent furniture auctions in Edinburgh and has seen a resurgence of interest during lockdown. We expect to see an increase in all styles from traditional Georgian to Arts and Crafts and fashionable Mid Centaury modern pieces.

Traditional feminine shapes and patterns

Ruffles and scallop shapes, fringing and more floral patterns have become very popular, we hope this trend will continue. Lampshades, bedding, pelmets and cushions all work well with these shapes. Instagram has helped fuel this trend as the pictures are much more impactful than the neutral straight lines of minimalism. We have just commissioned some scalloped bedding for a client in a specific colour to match the room. (image below credit @avreaandcompany)
