Knockderry Castle Primary Bedroom

The grand Primary Bedroom has been designed with a nature-inspired palette to create a calm elegant space.
Patterns and textures have been layered together to create a sense of warmth and intimacy within the castle’s grand proportions. Drawing inspiration from a Lewis & Wood wallpaper, originally adapted from artwork by Adam Calkin, the room’s colours flow effortlessly from the walls to the furnishings, establishing a harmonious and timeless scheme.

Rich green curtains, finished with a delicate Colefax & Fowler trim, are framed by traditional Victorian shaped pelmets, The pelmets frame the sainted glass windows and allow the view across Loch Long to remain the focal point. A magnificent four-poster bed creates a striking centrepiece. Dressed in layers of richly textured fabrics, chintz, jacquard weave and linen prints. It brings a sense of warmth, comfort and intimacy to the generous space.

The hand carved Victorian sofa has been upholstered in a simple, understated fabric to show off its shape. Throughout the room, subtle patterns and refined trims have been carefully layered to add depth without overwhelming the architecture. The result is a bedroom that feels both luxurious and personal.

Inspired by the surrounding landscape, the bathroom scheme carries forward the rich blues and soft natural tones seen throughout the castle. This creating a seamless connection between the interiors and the views across Loch Long.

A striking Lewis & Wood wallpaper, based on the artwork of Su Daybell, provides a beautifully expressive backdrop. Its painterly palette complements the silver travertine fireplace and introduction of a distinctive blue marble, bringing depth and cohesion to the space. To balance the decorative scheme, simple linen roman blinds, finished with a delicate Colefax & Fowler trim allow the wallpaper to remain the focal point.

Bespoke cabinetry was designed around the client’s lifestyle, combining practical storage with elegant detailing. Textured wardrobe doors, inspired by the ceiling design in the Primary Bedroom, introduce subtle depth, while linen-effect wallcoverings and warm oak interiors add to the texture. Carefully considered lighting, both antique and modern led creates a soft, welcoming atmosphere that enhances the details in the room.
